The Westacott family’s story at Turvins Farm began in 1892, when Walter and Mary Westacott moved from Devon and made Turvins Farm Dairy their new home.
Pictured here with their horse and cart, Walter and Mary began a new chapter for the family, establishing the dairy alongside a traditional mixed farming business. Beef cattle, sheep and cereals were all part of life on the farm, laying the foundations for the farming heritage that continues at Turvins today.
More than 130 years later, we’re proud to carry that family farming story forward — continuing to work the land, care for the countryside and celebrate the food and farming that have been at the heart of our farm for generations.

In the 1960s, John and Jean Westacott took the next step in the Turvins story, expanding the dairy and taking the farm and family business into a new era.
During the 1970s and 1980s, the family was given the opportunity to expand the land they farmed across the Chevening Estate. This became an important part of the farm’s history, and we’re proud to say that this same land is still farmed by the family today.
As the dairy herd continued to grow, the next generation brought another chapter of change. In 2010, William and Carolyn Westacott moved the dairy to a new yard within the Chevening Estate, creating more space for the expanding herd and allowing Turvins to continue developing into the hub it is today.
What began as a traditional family dairy had grown into something much more — laying the foundations for the farm we know today that continues to evolve with each generation.

The land may be much the same, but the machinery has certainly changed!
In 2020, the idea for Turvins Farm Shop began to take shape. Josh and Ellie Westacott were looking for a way to diversify the family farm, while ensuring that the land we have cared for over generations could continue to be farmed well into the future.
The plans were soon met with an unexpected challenge as COVID slowed the build of the farm shop. But while the building work may have been delayed, our vision for Turvins never wavered. We continued to look ahead and, in time, brought that vision to life.
Today, Turvins Farm Shop is another chapter in our family’s farming story — bringing together farming, food and our local community, while keeping our connection to the land at its heart.
And with the arrival of the sixth generation of the Westacott family in 2025, life on the farm is certainly busy! But perhaps that’s just how it should be — a new generation growing up amongst the fields, cattle and countryside that have been part of our family story for more than 130 years.
